A grey house exterior looks modern, sophisticated and timeless, and suits contemporary Indian homes well. Popular grey exterior house colors range from light dove grey and greige to slate and charcoal. Grey exterior house paint pairs beautifully with white trims, black window frames, wooden accents or bold doors, and weather-resistant finishes help a modern grey house exterior stay fresh through sun, dust and monsoon rain.

Mid-light greys like dove grey, pearl grey and warm greige are the most versatile for exteriors because they look elegant in strong sunlight and don't absorb too much heat. For contrast, use charcoal or slate on window surrounds, columns or the lower band. Always test swatches outdoors, since grey can look bluer or greener in natural light.
Popular schemes include light grey walls with white trims and a black door, greige with warm wood accents and brass fittings, and charcoal walls with off-white trims for a bold modern look. Grey with terracotta or brick cladding adds earthy warmth. For a cheerful twist, add a yellow, teal or red front door against grey walls.
Clean the walls thoroughly, repair cracks and treat any algae or damp patches. Apply an exterior primer suited to the surface, then two coats of exterior emulsion with proper drying time. Paint in dry weather, avoiding harsh midday sun and rain. Start from the top and work down in sections to avoid lap marks and uneven shading.
Light and mid greys reflect a fair amount of sunlight and generally don't make homes much hotter. Very dark greys and charcoal absorb more heat, so use them on smaller areas or shaded sides. In hot regions, combine grey walls with a light or heat-reflective roof coating to keep interiors comfortable during summer.
White and off-white trims give grey a crisp, clean look, while black adds modern definition. Wooden elements, bronze railings and stone cladding bring warmth. Bright accents like mustard yellow, coral, teal or deep red work well on doors and window shutters. Keep accents limited to one or two colours to maintain a polished exterior.
Wash exterior walls gently once or twice a year to remove dust and algae. Inspect for cracks, peeling and damp patches after the monsoon, and repair them promptly. Keep gutters and down pipes clear to avoid water streaks. Choosing dirt-resistant and anti-algal exterior paints helps the grey stay even and fresh for longer.
